Whois search data reveals the IP address of the domain registrar of the site, whois.com.
The domain registrant of the website, registered with the same domain name as a business name in California, has since closed.
The name is listed as “fake news” on the registrar’s domain registrars website, which also shows that it’s registered in the state of Delaware.
The website says it was registered on March 12, 2018.
The “fake” name “has been used to generate hundreds of thousands of clicks and over 100,000 likes on the site,” according to the site’s “Whois search results.”
In a statement, a Google spokesperson told NBC News: We are aware of the situation and are investigating.
Google said that it is “currently investigating the situation,” but that it was “notifying all registrarians of domain names associated with this domain.”
