The Federal Government has confirmed it will introduce a range of changes to register, pay and register online, in the wake of the $1.5 billion federal budget.
In a statement released this afternoon, the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said the Government would make “significant changes” to the register and pay system.
“We want to make it easier and fairer for Australians to register and spend their money online,” Mr Turnbull said.
The changes are expected to affect people aged between 18 and 99.
“Many people are struggling to keep up with the costs of running a business online and this Government will ensure we give them the tools they need to register with the Government online,” the statement said.
“The Government is committed to ensuring that every Australian can continue to access the tax benefits of online registration.”
Online tax registrationThe changes will see Australians who currently pay GST online or pay a GST service provider, and those who register online using a mobile phone, register their businesses online with the Federal Government.
Mr Turnbull said the changes would be “more transparent” to businesses, as people will no longer have to provide the tax details to be registered.
“I will make sure they’re registered properly, we’ll give them tax information and we’ll be able to show them on the GST return,” Mr Trump said.’
No longer a privilege’The Federal Government says the changes will help ease some of the pressure on businesses that are currently struggling to maintain their business online.
“If you’re a small business, you’ve got to pay your tax and it’s no longer a pleasure to be able go online and get the information and to pay,” Mr Trumper said.
He said the plan would give people the ability to register online.
He says the new system will allow businesses to get their tax information “more easily”.
