BYLINE: By BARRY BROWNSTEIN, Associated PressAssociated PressAPRIL 20, 201812:22 (AP) America has lost a sense of identity, but it’s time to start thinking like China, a top adviser to President Donald Trump said Monday.
China’s Communist Party is trying to build a stronger China, but its leaders don’t want America to have any idea what it really is, Trump said during a White House news conference.
China is an economic juggernaut, and the United States needs to think of China as an economic superpower, said Stephen Bannon, who ran Trump’s presidential campaign.
China wants to be the world’s No. 1 economic power, but the United Sates is the No. 2.
Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist, is now the White House’s top economic adviser.
“I think it’s important for the president to take a look at the China-U.S. relationship and think about the future,” Bannon said.
“The world is changing rapidly, and China is the center of it.
The Chinese want to be a superpower.
But the United states wants to see China as a regional power, not the global superpower.”
The United States has lost the ability to tell the truth about China, Bannon said during the White, House news briefing.
It is China that is manipulating currency, manipulating its political system, manipulating information, and manipulating media.
China has no interest in being the global economic superpower.
It wants to stay at the level of a regional economic power.
I think the Chinese are going to make a big push in 2018 to have a better understanding of America, but they’re not going to be able to do that if we don’t think about them.
